Scam & Fraud Awareness
Regardless of age, everyone could potentially become the target of fraud. A good way to avoid becoming a victim is to familiarize yourself with known scam techniques.
Scams and frauds can be committed against consumers of any age. However, senior citizens seem to be preyed upon frequently. Regardless of your age, you could become the target of a scam.
Known Frauds & Tips for Avoiding Scams

Here are a few general guidelines to help protect you from fraud
- Guard your numbers (such as social security, credit card & account numbers)
- Don’t pay money up front (for loans, prizes or credit repair)
- Be cautious with sales offers (telemarketers, door to door, email or text)
- If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is (get rich quick schemes)
If you receive an unsolicited email or text from someone claiming to be with Blue Flame Credit Union any you are asked to provide account or card numbers, this is a scam. We have all of your account details and would not ask you to provide complete numbers to us.
Additionally, we monitor ATM & Debit Card transactions for potentially fraudulent activity and will contact you by automated phone call to verify transactions if fraud is suspected. If at any time you suspect that you may have been a victim of fraud with your Blue Flame account, please contact us immediately. In the event that you have fraudulent activity that posts to your account, you will be asked to complete a Dispute ACH Transactions or a Dispute ATM Debit Card Transactions form. You may submit these forms electronically using our Secure Online Forms system.
Mastercard Credit Card transactions are also monitored. You will be contacted if fraudulent activity is detected. If you notice invalid transactions on your account, contact he Mastercard fraud department at 1-844-583-1060.
It is important that we be able to reach you by phone to verify transactions. If we do not have your current telephone information, including home, mobile and work numbers, you may update your information by completing an Update Account Information form online.

Travel Notifications
In an effort to provide additional protection against Debit and Credit Card scams, your Blue Flame Credit Union will block any transactions originating from outside of the United States. If you have plans to travel outside of the U.S. please notify the credit union in advance, so that we may temporarily remove the block on your card until you return. It is important that you notify us when you plan to use your credit card while traveling. This will help in avoiding unusual activity being considered as fraud.
Online Shopping – Protect Your Cards
As an added layer of security, both Blue Flame Mastercards and Blue Flame Visa Debit Cards come with the ability to create private codes to be used specifically when shopping online.
Just like using your PIN at the ATM, all you do is enter your private code during checkout at participating merchants. Once your identity is confirmed, your purchase is complete.
